Abstract
For years women have been told to “go back to the kitchen”. They’ve only been seen as a caretaker — their social value reduced to “child bearers” and domestic labourers instead of being an equal contributor in the political, social and economical field. Women have been stripped away of their rights since the day they were born; from patriarchy, being forced to live up to the impossible expectations of society all the way to being discredited from their own works. They’ve been oppressed for years, and even now, after decades of proving themselves time and time again, women are still so far from being seen as equals. Gender inequality has deep historical roots, etched into the very skin of society. It is woven into the fabric of economic, religious and political life, and oftentimes, norms woven into life this deep, can be hard to get rid of.
